 It is very common to see astrologers using

Gulika and Mandi as one and same
Sage Mantreswara too treats them
synonymously
It is also a common practice to say that
Uttarakalamrita, ascribed to Kalidasa makes a
distinction between Mandi and Gulika
However translators differ on this aspect;
PSShastry says the author of Uttarakalamrita
treats the two entities as one while SS Sareen
differs

 Whatever may be the dispute, in the

Prashna charts, Gulika is used extensively
It occupies a place of prominence, almost
deciding the fate of prashna at the first
instance itself

ROLE OF MANDI
Mandi plays a vital role in all spheres of
Astrology from birth to death and salvation
Mandi spoils all the houses he occupies
Mandi is benefic in the 10th & 11th house.
Planets conjoining Mandi loses it benefic
powers and turns malefic
If Saturn aspects or joins Mandi, it fortifies
its malefic powers. It gives extra power to
Mandi, to do more harm.

MANDI IN MUHURTHA
Mandi occupied Rasi in Muhurtha is not
acceptable
Mandi occupied Rasi is accepted in
muhurtha only after the rise of Mandi, if
there is a benefic planet there
In Kerala Astrologers also use Mandi to
ascertain whether lagna is correct or not in
a rasi kundali of a birth chart

Mandi in Navamsa, death will be calm and
peaceful
If malefics are there in 7th house from
Mandi in navamsa, death will be painful
and tragic
If the house occupied by Mandi is owned
by Saturn, and such Saturn is debilitated,
the native may commit suicide

MANDI-SALVATION IN PRASNA
In Kerala prasna the state of soul after
death is examined by placement of mandi
prasna chart
If placement of other grahas are ideal, in
such case Mandi does not occupy
Badhaka house (for chara rasi 11th, for
stira rasi 9th & 7th for dual rasi) or 6th
house, the soul is said to have attened
moksha (salvation)

 In other case the soul is said to be

wandering without moksha
In such cases Parihara poja and remedial
measures are prescribed in Kerala
