1- How to avoid bad KPI during

expansion.
1. Use CME to check configuration before moving any
hardware and make right labels on jumpers and feeders
to define every sector and use compass to define every
sector on the tower (dont depend on old labels).
2. Make labels on CPRIs.
3. Adjust electrical tilt before antenna lifted up.
4. Do loop on E1 and check the bit error rate.
5. Do sweep test for added RF and for any moved jumper.
6. Check configuration after the action using site
maintenance terminal and be sure that all TX and RX
modes are OK.
7. Revise all antenna parameters, TX,RX cables, and CPRIs
positions before leaving the site (height, Azimuth,
Electrical and mechanical tilt).

3- procedure to check any KPI.

1. Check configuration and be sure that everything is matched
with back using CME and revise all TX and RX mode.
2. Check antenna parameters for all antennas specially new
added one.
3. Check for cross using compass to define sectors and Avo.
to buzzer on every RF branch.
4. Do sweep test for RF and be sure that VSWR average not
exceeds 1.3 and DTF not exceeds 1.04 at any point.
5. Replace boards and TX and RX cables.
6. Be sure that there is no board mismatch or any faulty board
using LEDs then confirm with FO before leaving the site.

4- Bad KPI cases study.

1. Bad TCH efficiency, and bad assignment.
I. Definition:
it means that this TRX cant be assigned for calls ( bad
efficiency define the problem in stable and handover
state but assignment is for stable state only).
II. Possible causes:
a)
b)

Azimuth or tilt.
If it exists on all DCS of sec3 then 90% the problem that there is a
cross between sec3 GSM with any other GSM sector.

2. Traffic loss or high call drop:
I. Definition:

It means that this sector was carrying

traffic more than currently after the
expansion.
II. Possible causes:
a)
b)
c)

Tilt or Azimuth.
Problems in connectors or jumpers (RF problems).
Faulty hardware.

3. Path imbalance.
I. Definition :
It means that there are imbalance between TRX
downlink and uplink power levels.
II. possible causes:
a)
b)
c)

Problem in configuration.
Problem in RF VSWR values.
Faulty hardware.

4. Zero traffic.
I. Definition:
It means that this TRX no carrying any traffic.
II. Possible causes:
a)
b)
c)
d)

Faulty hardware.
RF problem or VSWR .
Check that hopping is defined as base band hopping.
If zero traffic exist on all DCS TRX of any sector and this sector is
defined as concentric cell then the problem in below parameters.

Concentric circuit over layer to be allowed.

UL to OL HO (yes).
Assign optimum layer [over layer].

5. Radio link.
I. Definition:
It means that the UL power level and the DL power level
deviate from each other greatly(there is a problem in the
RX path).
II. Possible causes:
a)

b)
c)

Problem in configuration as in 3012 BO defined RX mode

independent receiver but the right definition is dividing receiving as
it was in site 5488.
Missing RX cables in 3012.
Problem in RF.

6. TRX VSWR.
I. Definition:
A TRX reports this alarm when detecting that the voltage
standing wave ratio (VSWR) on a power output port of it
is greater than 3, or the power output port of the DTRU
(TX1, TX2, and TCOM) is not correctly connected.
II. Possible causes:
a)
b)

RF problem in BTS3900, or configuration problem (single or double

feeder)
Configuration miss match in TX cables with BO.

7. Diversity Alarm.
I. Definition:
This alarm is reported when the hardware of the RX
diversity channel is faulty.
II. Possible causes:
a)
b)
c)

DRFU or GRFU is defined as single feeder but it is double in the

site.
Missing RX cable in 3012 or wrong configuration.
RF problem.
