METHODS

RESULTS
More than 1800 cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests
306 of them were included in the intervention group
alarming a trained lay person
361 were included in the control group
no allocation of a lay person

RESULTS
In 81% of all cases of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, at least
one trained lay person was located within 500m of the patient
65% of them tried to reach the patient
23% actually reached the patient before EMS arrived
13% initiated CPR before the arrival of EMS

RESULTS
61.6 % of the patients in the intervention
group received CPR before the arrival of EMS
Only 47.8 % of the patients in the control
group received CPR before the arrival of EMS

difference of 13.8 percentage points!
