QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

SMINGASCA2017
LIMITATIONS OF QUALITATIVE
STUDIES

SUBJECTIVITY IS INHERENT
-the researcher has substantial control over both the
design and the analysis and the study is influenced by the
researchers perceptions.
CHAPTER 1
LABOR INTENSIVE
LIMITATION - Collection and analysis occur simultaneously, the
S amount gathered is enormous, and few computer
programs are available to assist with management and
analysis.
MISUNDERSTANDING OF NOVICES
-compromised research because of less understanding of
the work process.
TIME INTENSIVE
-Often takes a year or more to conduct a qualitative

research, thus, more understanding and time is required
ETHICAL GUIDELINES IN QUALITATIVE
RESEARCH
RESEARCH ETHICS deals primarily with the interaction between
researchers and the people they study.

The fundamental research principles are as follows:

Respect for Persons

-requires a commitment to ensuring the autonomy of research
participants, and, where autonomy may be diminished, to protect people
from exploitation of their vulnerability.

Beneficence
- requires a commitment to minimizing the risks associated with
research, including psychological and social risks, and maximizing the
benefits that accrue to research participants.

Justice
- requires a commitment to ensuring a fair distribution of the
risks and benefits resulting from research. Sharing the benefits of
knowledge gained to those who also took part in the research
process.

Respect for Communities

- respecting the values and interest of the community in
research to protect the community from harm.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

Set the delimitation or boundaries of your research in order to

provide a clear focus.
Includes the coverage of the study area, the subjects, the
research instrument, the research issues and concerns, the
duration of the study, and the constrains that have direct
bearing on the result of the study.
addresses how a study will be narrowed, and how it is bounded.
Usually includes the general problem to be investigated
including the time frame or work.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

How have you narrowed the scope of the

study?
Did you focus only on selected aspects of
the problem?
What are the delimitations surrounding
your study within which conclusions must
be confined?
What are the delimitations exist in your
research methodology?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

State the benefits and beneficiaries of the

study.

Most studies have potential audiences;

practitioners in the field, professional
peers, school administrators, teachers,
parents, and students, Statements
relating the research to theses groups
are in order.
