Ecosystems

Science
Seventh Grade
First term 2017
Learning Objective 1
Objective: Valuing Gods creation by learning about the Ecosystem and
its components.
Learning objective:
Identifying the vocabulary related to the Ecosystem to describe the
environment.

Biblical principle:
Jonahs Anger and Gods Kindness
Jonah 4:6 (NKJV)
And the LORD God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah,
that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So
Jonah was very grateful for the plant.

ECOSYSTEMS
What do you see in the pictures?
What animals can you see?
What plants can you see?
How do these animals interact?
What would happen if all the grass
disappeared?
What would happen if all the animals
dissapeared?
Why are the elements found there
important to you?
THE ELEMENTS IN AN
ECOSYSTEM
An ecosystem includes a specific area and the living
things that are found there. An ecosystem is made up of
both living and nonliving parts.
BIOTIC factors are the living parts of an ecosystem.
These include animals, plants, algae, and fungi.
ABIOTIC factors are the nonliving parts of an ecosystem.
Abiotic factors include soil, air, water, temperature,
sunlight, wind, etc.
The biotic and abiotic factors are very closely related.
They influence each other.
There are different ecosystems on Earth. Ecosystems can
be terrestrial (desert, forest) or aquatic (ocean)
The environment affect living things and living things
can change their environment.
Relationships between Living things
and their Habitat in Ecosystems.
Living things live in different places on the earth. For
example:
Camels and cacti live in deserts. The desert is their
habitat. Deserts are very dry, but camel and cacti are
adapted to the lack of water.
Any change in a habitat affects the living things in the
ecosystem. For example, a lot of animalsand plants dieif
the water in a river becomes polluted.
The living things in an ecosystem also influence their
habitat. For example, animals excrement and fallen
leaves fertilize the soil.
Changes in Ecosystems
Ecosystems change. The changes may be natural or they
may be the result of human actions.
- Natural processes
Lightning and dry weather can cause a forest fire.
Migration of animals
Animals and plants appear over the years.
- Human actions:
- some humans actions that harm or destroy ecosystems are,
- Cutting down trees
- Building hydroelectric power plants to generate electricity
from water.
- Putting up overhead power cables to distribute electricity,
this causes hundreds of birds to die every year.
- Pollution.
We will have a brainstorming based on the following

Project: Students will bring different material to create an

ecosystem in class. Then they are going to present it explaining
the element and components of their ecosystem. And a short
reflection about the importance of taking care of Gods creation.
