Pie Chart
Pie Chart is a graphic representation of data using
sectors of a circle. The size of each sector shows the
percentage of the overall data it represents.

(A) Formula to convert angle of a sector into percentage

(B) Formula to Find the size of the angle of a sector

Angle of a Sector
Favourite sport of a group of student
TENNIS SWIMMING TABLE TENNIS SOCCER HOCKEY

18 %

32 % 5%

28 %
Example 1
If 34 student like hockey, calculate the total
number of students who like tennis and table
tennis ?
Solution

Percentage of students who like hockey
=100% - (28+32+5+18)%
=(100 83)%
= 17%
Percentage of students who like tennis and table tennis
=(18+28)%
=46%
17 % represent 34 Students
46% represents
*92 Students like tennis and table tennis
Example 2
The table shows the number of pupils in five primary
schools?
School Number of pupils
A 420
B 400
C 380
D 310
E 290

Display the above data on pie chart. What is the difference between the angles of the
sectors that represent School A and E?
Solution :
Total number of pupils
=420 + 400 + 380 + 310 + 290
=1800
Population of pupils in 5 primary schoo

Mode, Median and Mean

Mode

Mode is the most common factor or value with the highest

frequency in a set of data.

There are two methods to determine data mode:

a) Mode for a set data

b) Mode for data from a frequency table.
Example 1 :
Find the mode of the following sets of data;

44, 28, 35, 28, 33, 28, 40, 28, 21, 52, 44
Solution :
Rearrange the numbers in order of magnitude :

21, 28, 28, 28, 28, 33, 35, 40, 44, 44, 5
Mode = 28
Frequency = 4
Mode, Median and Mean

Median

Median is the value in the middle of the set of data

when the data is arranged in numerical order
Example 1 :
Find
the median of the following sets of data;

10, 9, 11, 6, 5, 8, 7, 12
Solution :
Number of data items = 8 (Even Number)
Rearrange the data in order of magnitude:
5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Median = = 8.5
Example 1 :
Find the median of the following sets of data;

10, 9, 11, 6, 5, 8, 7
Solution :
Number of data items = 7 (Odd Number)
Rearrange the data in order of magnitude:
5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

Median = 8
Mode, Median and Mean

Mean

Mean is the average of a set of data

Mean =
Example 1 :
Find
the mean of the following sets of data items
(a)9,12, 15, 8, 6
(b) -5, -2, -1, 5, 6, 9

Solution:
(b)Mean = = = 10

(c) Mean = = = 2
