Why do people start drowning?


Lack of swimming skills, drunkenness, spinal injury, seizure, poor flip
turning . . .
Two Phases of Drowning:

#1 Distress #2 Drowning

- Airway above waters - Submerged (face and airway are
surface covered)
- Cannot talk - By one minute, unconscious

- Vertical in the water - By four minutes, brain damage

- Thrashing arms, no - By six minutes, death likely
