INTRODUCTION
AWHO expert group (1961) has
defined Housing as the physical
structure that man uses and the
environs of the structure including
all necessary services, facilities,
equipment and devices needed or
desired for the physical and
mental health and the social well
being of the family and the
individual
CRITERIA FOR HEALTHFUL
HOUSING
1. Healthful housing provides physical protection and
shelter;
2. Provides adequately for cooking, eating, washing and
excretory function;
3. Is designed, constructed, maintained and used in a
manner such as to prevent the spread of communicable
diseases;
4. Provides for protection from hazards of exposure to noise
and pollution;
5. Is free from unsafe physical arrangements due to
construction or maintenance and from toxic and harmful
materials; and
6. Encourages personal and community development,
promote social relationships, reflex a regard for ecological
principles, and by these means promotes mental health.

METHODOLOGY
o Study Design Observational, Descriptive , Cross
Sectional study
o Study Period - 6th December 31st December 2016
o Study Area - Kushomba, Shimotola, Haldar Para,
Sonarpur, South 24 Paraganas
o Study Population 3 members
o Study Tools Measuring Tape, Newspaper, Camera,
Schedules
o Study Technique - Data were collected by
interviewing family members and taking
measurements where ever necessary.

SUMMARY

Thefamily of Kazi Imran is a nuclear family in


the phase of Extension. There are 3 members,
out of which 2 are priority members . Total
income of the family per month is Rs.8000/-.Per
capita income of the family is Rs.2666/-
According to modified Kuppuswamys scale
2014, the family is upper lower class family.
They are a Muslim and a Bengali speaking family. They
live in a Pucca house. The house consists of a 3 living
room with a separate kitchen,2 windows and 1door in
each room that opens in open space. The fuel used for
cooking was L.P.G. They have a separate Privy and is

do not have a covered bin to store the waste, but they
have hygienic way of disposing it since they give it to
the municipality van daily.

There are a lot of breeding places of mosquitoes around


the house.
RECOMMENDATION
At individual level

a. Washing hands before eating and after defecation.


b. Both Nasira Kazi and Kazi Ishan should visit Anganwadi
centre because they belong to reproductive age group and
under 5 year children respectively for health and nutritional
education

At family level

a. Cleanliness of the latrine should be maintained.


b. They should use a covered bin.
c. Contaminated or waste water should not be kept open
and should be discarded as soon as possible.
At community level
a. Awareness regarding health schemes like Pradhan
mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
