Bring Your Own Device-

How to Implement and


Manage in Middle School
Social Studies Classroom

What is it About?
This grant proposal seeks to educate teachers
about the advantages and resources
surrounding the pedagogy of Bring Your Own
Device (BYOD) and how to implement and
manage it in the classroom. It is concentrated
in helping middle school social studies
teachers.
Program Format
This professional development is spread out
over five workshops during the summer of
2017 with two follow-up sessions in the fall of
2017 and one in the spring of 2018.
Summer sessions will consist of breakout
sessions with the Newton Tech Team to learn
about and experiment with resources
Follow-up sessions will allow for debriefs of
implementation and time to discuss successes
and challenges
When and Where
The professional development will take place
in Clarke County, Georgia.
It will begin in the summer of 2017 and will
run until March 2018
Meetings will take place at the Clarke County
School Districts board of education office,
located in Athens, Georgia.
Target Audience
This professional development opportunity is
aimed at middle school social studies teachers
in the Clarke County School District
There are approximately 20 teachers in the
county which fit this target audience
Middle school social studies classrooms in
Clarke County have typically underperformed
in CCPI scores
Benefits of Attending and
Participating
Opportunity to learn BYOD principles from the
Newton Tech Team, one of the most experienced
BYOD teams in the state
Become an expert in implementing and managing
BYOD in the classroom
Compile and experiment with resources to engage
students using their favorite tool-their personal
technology devices
Receive feedback from classroom observations
through the school year with follow-up sessions
throughout the year
Eligibility Requirements
Priority will be granted to middle school social
studies teachers in the Clarke County School
District
After all middle school social studies teachers
have had the opportunity to sign-up, the rest
of the spots will be open to all other Clarke
County teachers
If the 20 spots still have not filled, the spots
will be released to any other teacher in the
state of Georgia on a first come, first serve
basis
How to Apply
An email will be sent out to all middle school
social studies teachers in Clarke County.
Teachers wishing to participate will have one
week to respond
After a week, an email will be sent to the rest
of the county teachers if the 20 spots have not
filled. Teachers will have a week to respond
Once the window for Clarke County has closed,
an email will be sent out through PAGE and
GAE to the rest of the state offering an
opportunity to sign-up
