LESSON PLAN SCRIPT

EDU 214 Final


DAY #1 - INTRODUCTION

Mr. Vargas: Hello class, how are you doing today?

Students: Hello Mr. Vargas, we are doing good!

Mr. Vargas: Today we are going to start our next sport unit.

The sport for this week will be Volleyball!

Students: Awesome, we love volleyball!

Mr. Vargas: Let me set up the projector and we will get

started on a PowerPoint all about volleyball.


SLIDE #1 - HISTORY

Mr. Vargas: Class, I am going to present you with some


history on the sport of Volleyball.
Mr. Vargas: Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William
G. Morgan. It was originally called Mintonette.
Mr. Vargas: Morgan used Basketball, Baseball, Tennis,
and Handball as inspiration to create volleyball.
Mr. Vargas: Today, 800 Million people play volleyball
worldwide. How many of you knew any of those facts?
Class: Many answers of I dids! and Nos!
SLIDE # 2 PLAYING THE
GAME

Mr. Vargas: Class, now that you have a little background on


volleyball lets learn how the game is played. What do you say?
Class: Yeah!
Mr. Vargas: The game consists of two six players teams on either
side of the net. There is a maximum of three hits per side.
However, a single player must not hit the ball twice in a row.
Teams will rotate in a clockwise manner each time they win the
serve.
Mr. Vargas: Any questions so far?
Student 1: How are the teams of six set up?
Mr. Vargas: Great Question!(I will use a diagram as an aid to
explain) The teams are set up with two rows of three. There will be
a left back, left front, middle back, middle front, right back, and
right front.

Mr. Vargas: Class, now I will show you a short video on the basics of
how to play the game.
Class: Cool, now we can see what you have been explaining to us.
Mr. Vargas: Now, just sit back and pay attention, please! (I will click

Mr. Vargas: Did you all enjoy the video?
Class: Yes we did!
Mr. Vargas: Thank you for your attention and patience class! Now
come to me in a single file line and draw a number. There are
numbers 1-5.
Mrs. Vargas: Okay, now that you have your numbers listen for when I
call your number. Group 1 head over to the far gym wall. Group 2
next to them, Groups 3, 4, & 5 please get in your groups over by the
others.
DRILLS

Mr. Vargas: Now that you are in your groups it is time to


tell you that your group will serve as your volleyball
team.
Students: Yay! When can we play?
Mr. Vargas: Hold on a minute. We will be ending our
class today with drills that will help you practice the
volleyball skills explained in the video.
Mr. Vargas: Drill #1 will consist of your group and one
volleyball. Your group will get in a circle and pass the
ball to each other. This drill will help with your passing
and communication skills.
Drill #2 will be an individual drill that you perform with
your group. One player will set each other player so they
can practice spiking. Each member will get practice
DAYS 2, 3, AND 4 ROUND
ROBIN TOURNAMENT

Mr. Vargas: Hello, class welcome back! Are you ready to


play some volleyball now?
Class: Hello, Mr. Vargas. Yes were ready!
Mr. Vargas: Now, get with your teams and pay attention.
We will do a round robin style tournament where you will
play each team once. We will use today, tomorrow, and
Thursday to do this. Games will be played to 25.
Mr. Vargas: Now, have fun and report the scores to me
when each game is completed.
DAY 5 - PLAYOFFS

Mr. Vargas: Hello, class. To teach you how a typical


volleyball elimination tournament is played we will have
a playoff tournament to end this unit.
Student #1: Awesome, but how will the tournament be
played?
Mr. Vargas: Each team will be seeded 1-5 based on your
records vs. the other teams. Here is a diagram to show
the tournament brackets. The winners will be rewarded
with Gatorades from me!
