INTRODUCTION
A hoist is a device used for lifting o
r lowering a load by means of a dru
m or lift-wheel around which rope o
r chain wraps. It may be manually o
perated, electrically or pneumaticall
y driven and may use chain, fiber or
wire rope as its lifting medium. The
load is attached to the hoist by mea
ns of a lifting hook.
There is a many types of cranes as follo
wing:
1.Goliath Crane
2.Tower Crane
3.Gantry Crane
4.Winches
5.Pulley blocks
6.Hydraulic Jack
7.Ladders
TOWER CRANE

The tower crane is a modern form of balan

ce crane. Fixed to the ground (and sometimes att
ached to the sides of structures as well), or moun
ted on rails, the tower crane often gives the best c
ombination of height and lifting capacity and are
used in the construction of tall buildings.

GANTRY CRANE
Gantry cranes are a type of cr
ane built atop a gantry, which is a str
ucture used to straddle an object or
workspace. They are also called portal
cranes, the "portal" being the empty s
pace straddled by the gantry. The ter
ms gantry crane and overhead crane
(or bridge crane) are often used inter
changeably, as both types of crane str

WINCHES
A winch is a mechanical device that is used to pu
ll in (wind up) or let out (wind out) or otherwise a
djust the "tension" of a rope or wire rope (also ca
lled "cable" or "wire cable"). In its simplest form i
t consists of a spool and attached hand crank. In
larger forms, winches stand at the heart of machi
nes as diverse as tow trucks, steam shovels and
elevators. The spool can also be called the winch
drum.
More elaborate designs have gear assemblies and ca
n be powered by electric, hydraulic, pneumatic or int
ernal combustion drives.
Type of winches.
1) hand winches
2) power winches
PULLEY BLOCKS
A pulley is a wheel on an axle or shaft t
hat is designed to support movement a
nd change of direction of a taut cable o
r belt along its circumference.[1] Pulley
s are used in a variety of ways to lift loa
ds, apply forces, and to transmit power.
In nautical contexts, the assembly of w
heel, axle, and supporting shell is referr
ed to as a "block."
A pulley may also be called a sheave or drum and
may have a groove or grooves between two flang
es around its circumference. The drive element of
a pulley system can be a rope, cable, belt, or chai
n that runs over the pulley inside the groove or gr
ooves.
