Hearing vs. Listening

Was I paying
attention?
Hearing vs. Listening
Do you think there is a difference between
hearing and listening?

Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound

by the ear. If you are not hearing-impaired,
hearing simply happens.

Listening, however, is something you

consciously choose to do. Listening requires
concentration so that your brain processes
meaning from words and sentences. Listening
leads to learning.
listening : the process of
receiving, constructing meaning
from, and responding to spoken
and/or nonverbal messages; to
hear something with thoughtful
attention.
Listening vs. Hearing
Hearing- physical process; natural; passive

Listening- physical & mental process;

active; learned process; a skill

Listening is hard!
You must choose to participate in
the process of listening.

Mostly As
You are a fantastic active listener And people respect you for your ability
to communicate clearly and listen intently. You are probably a great
influencer and negotiator too.

Mostly Bs
You are a capable active listener and could work on changing some of
your behaviours so that you get the most out of active listening and
avoid any conflicts or misunderstandings.Think about what you need to
do to make the person you are listening to aware that you have really
heard what they said. Consider paraphrasing what they said and identify
the feelings behind what they said. Try to be empathetic and non
judgemental in your communication, whether verbal or otherwise.

Mostly Cs
Keep working on your active listening skills otherwise you are going to
find it extremely difficult to communicate whether in a work or social
context. Make a conscious effort to understand the complete message
being sent by the speaker and not just the words. If you are confused
say so! Soon you will find that there are less misunderstandings and
better communication between yourself and your colleagues and friends.
Most people
tend to be
"hard of
listening"
rather than
"hard of
hearing."

TIME MANAGEMENT
Hargai waktu

Waktu adalah sumber daya yang

tak tergantikan.
Pegawai cleaning servis dan
rektor mendapat jatah yang
sama setiap hari : 1440
menit !
Ambil waktu yang dibuang oleh
orang rata-rata, untuk
mengerjakan hal-hal yang
produktif, maka Anda akan
menjadi orang di atas rata-rata.
MANAJEMEN WAKTU:

Apa yang paling banyak anda lakukan

setiap hari ?
Suka menunda-nunda pekerjaan

Suka melakukan pekerjaan dalam

kondisi mendesak

Terlalu banyak menghabiskan waktu

santai dan bersenang-senang

Sering merasa sibuk dan

kekurangan waktu
Berapa jam anda beraktivitas :
1. Tidur
2. Kuliah
3. Makan
4. Perjalanan
5. Menambah ilmu dan wawasan
6. Menonton TV
7. Ibadah
8. Aktivitas tak bermanfaat
Akumulasi:
Andai anda tidur 8 jam sehari, jika umur anda
60 tahun= anda tidur selama 20
tahun=menghabiskan 1/3 umur anda!!!!

Jika anda :
- tidur 8 jam dalam sehari,
- 2 jam untuk bercerita,
- 2 jam untuk nonton, 2 jam menghabiskan
waktu di jalan,
- 1 jam untuk berjalan, maka menghabiskan
waktu sia-sia 15 jam sehari. Jika umur anda 60
tahun, maka menghabiskan lebih dari setengah
umur anda yaitu 37 tahun terbuang sia-sia!!!
