Making connections with students is
something that takes time and
practice. I consider myself a pretty
social person, but making
connections with the students is not
coming naturally to me. I find myself
dancing a line of not sharing anything
personal and being too friendly with
them, especially the older students.
The one thing I try to hold to as I
stumble through connecting with
students is to be honest with them. I
try to give my students as much
information as I can and tell them
truthfully when I dont know
something or if I cant tell them
something.
The second thing I try to remember is
something my Aunt Mary has shown
me and told me my entire life, that
people just want validation; that they
just want to feel valued. Its easy to
get wrapped up in all the things that
keep us busy and overwhelm us and
