Grade Control System

Jeff Ensell
Keep it Clean

Your Cut surface is only as good the

surface you Walked on.

If you have this to work with you will

never achieve grade.

Why?
Clean up your mess
Our shovel is on the water truck.

The automatics will take that out

Clean up after you pick up.

What will happen when you set back down.
Instead of taking the time to clean this up I
Will just guess how thick this is.

Sensor height

Measurement is not always needed to ensure

proper sensor height.
If the sensor is not at its optimum height the
display will blink until the sensor is moved.

Will the sensor still work?

Yes

Always add your cut depth to the 14 optimum

setting of the sensor.
14
4 cut set the sensor to 18 Zero out and go.
Setting up Sonics

Watch where you position the

sensor.
You will see a lot of material
Flying around in this position.
Keeping the front moldboard
Door down will help with this.

Operator Menu

Operator menu is accessed by hitting the

A/M and the Blue together.
This menu will revolve in a circle when you get
to the end.
Slope monitor

Slope monitor does not mean you are running slope.

If you are running 2 grade sensors ( rope and rope) you
Will be able to just see what the slope is.
Sensor Select

Sensor select only shows if you have more than one

sensor connected to the system.
By touching the up or down arrow you can see what sensors
are available.
Sensitivity

Sensitivity is 1-10.
10 is the most sensitive.
1 is the least sensitive.
I try to run all my mills at 3.5

Units of measurement

Units of measurement.
This can be changed by using the up or down arrows.
Working window

Working window.
This can be changed by using the up or down arrows.

Working window applies to:

If the working window is on then this will not allow the machine
to do a plunge cut. It will stay in the working window until it
sees something inside the window.
Type

Type is the programmed setting that is used for the machine.

This can be changed by using the up or down arrows.

This can be programmed for up to 40 different machines.
We use type 1 for all grade sensors.
We use type 2 for slope.

Why ?
Changing the value

We want to change the value to match what the

cut depth really is.
After we measure that measurement needs to be
programmed in.
If you were doing slope you would do the
same procedure
Keep this held in.

Setting 0
Starting a Cut
Move the machine into position.

Ground man needs to make sure that the machine is lined up

with the cut at this time.
Lower the machine down and set the back to the cut depth.
Normally anything under 2 you can leave it at zero.

Starting a cut

Make sure the water is on.

Check the front door.

Set the rear door to down pressure.

Start forward and prepare to raise the
rear of the machine as the leg enters
the cut.
Starting a cut

Now we are in the cut.

Starting the cut

As we are advancing in the cut we are now looking for the correct depth.
Starting the cut

We are now going to put the measured value into

the controller.
Why guess what is the cut depth.

How do I do this?

My Depth is 3
Controller says 0.0
Check your water
Adjust your water and check to see the moisture in the
material.

Running Slope
Step 1:
Get the machine up and level out. (Side to Sid
Step 2:
Make your Control system say zero %.
a. If you have Moba your put it in type ?
Running Slope

Step 3:
Dial in a slope and check with a level.
a. Normally I will dial 2% witch is bubble
on a 4 level. ( some dont have digital)
Step 4:
Leave your system in Automatic. Lower your
machine into the cut.
Thank you
