Geometry in Nature

By, Alex Bohr

Point
This scavenger hunt item is
found in nature.
The rock identifies a point
on the earth. It shows
where the earth formed its
land.
Two Planes that intersect
This scavenger hunt item is
found in nature.
The two pedals are
overlapping each other.
Each pedal is a plane and
they are both intersecting
each other.
Geometric Plane
This scavenger hunt item in
found between mountains
in nature.
The lake is a plane at the
base of the mountains. It is
a flat, two dimensional
surface.
Collinear Points
This scavenger hunt item
can be found in front of a
house.
Each one of those fence
posts represent a point.
They are lined up on a
straight line, making them
collinear points.
Angle
This scavenger hunt item
can be found between two
mountains.
The two sides of the
mountains each have a
line. They connect to form
an angle.
Right Angle
This is a rock formation
found at a lake somewhere
in nature.
The rock formation is cut
away to form two lines.
They connect at the vertex
to form that right angle.
Obtuse Angle
This item is found at a
tropical beach somewhere
in the Pacific Ocean.
The boardwalk is bent to
get to the little house at
the end. It is bent at an
angle more than 90
degrees, making it an
obtuse angle
Acute Angle
This is a tree on a hill
overlooking mountains in
nature.
The two branches in the
picture are forming at a
degree smaller than 90
degrees. Therefore, It is an
acute angle.
Straight Angle
This is a fallen tree over a
stream in a forest.

The tree trunk is perfectly

straight. It is forming a
straight angle. It forms 180
degrees.
Two Planes that do not
Intersect
This is a field found in the
mountains at a high
elevation.
The two smaller fields
boxed in are two planes.
They are separated by a
grass walkway. They do
not intersect.
Perpendicular Bisector
This item is a fence in
between a walkway of
flowers in a garden.
The fence post that is
highlighted is two lines.
One of them is cutting the
other line segment into two
parts. It is also forming a
right angle as it bisecting
the line segment.
Skew Lines
These are fences that line
the sides of a driveway.
There is a post and railing
highlighted. One of them is
vertical and the other one
is horizontal. They are not
parallel to each other and
they do not intersect.
Segment
This is a fallen log on a
river in a forest.
The tree that is fallen is a
line segment in this picture.
The log connects one rock,
a point, to another rock, a
point.
Coplanar Line Segments
This item is found in a lake
at the bottom of a
waterfall.
The lake is the plane in this
picture. The two logs in the
lake are line segments.
They lie on the same plane.
Two Coplanar Lines that do
not intersect
This is a fence at the Rocky
mountains.
One of the sections of the
fence is a plane. There is
two lines that do not
intersect on the plane, they
are highlighted in the
picture. They are parallel
to each other, but they do
not intersect.
Reflection
Before going into this project, I had a good amount of knowledge
on the subject. As I was working on this project, I did encounter a
few problems. One, it was hard to find pictures in nature that
relates to this topic. Second, when I did pick out some pictures, I
realized that they did not have the required items in them. So, I
just had to keep looking for pictures until I found the ones I
needed. In the end, I really enjoyed this project. We were able to
pick our own topics for it and that made it fun to do. Also, it wasnt
that hard of a project.
