Heat will never of itself flow from a cold object to a hot object. Heat flows
from hot to cold. Particles vibrate from where there is higher kinetic energy to
where there is lower kinetic energy.

Transfer
Conduction
Any material that is a poor conductor of heat and that delays the transfer of
heat. For example: Air
Materials that have many small air spaces are good insulators.
Wool, wood, straw, paper, fur, and feathers are insulators due to the air spaces
they contain.
Insulator
In convection, heat is transferred by movement of the
hotter substance from one place to another. It is a means
of heat transfer by movement of the heated substance its
elf, such as by currents in a fluid , liquids or gases
CONVECTION
In radiation, heat is transmitted in the form of
radiant energy, or electromagnetic waves. Radiatio
n from the sun is primarily light. Radiant energy is
any energy that is transmitted by radiation. From th
e longest wavelength to the shortest, this includes,
radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visibl
e light, ultraviolet radiation, X-ray, and gamma ray
RADIATION
All substances continuously emit radiant
energy in a mixture of wavelengths.
Infrared thermometers can be use to prove that
all objects in our environment continuously
emit infrared radiation.
Point out the thermometer at an object to read
the temperature.
