Summary
Case Study 2.5: You are a new graduate who has accepted a
position teaching kindergarten at a rural school in a community
in which many families have low incomes and where students
test scores are very low. You have set up learning centers, and
things are going well. You are shocked when your principal tells
you that students parents are adamant that they dont want
children to just play, They expect children to complete
workbook pages at school and also expect their children to
have workbook pages for homework.

I-1.1- To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and
education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.
I-1.2- To base program practices upon current knowledge and research in
the field of early childhood education, child development, and related
disciplines, as well as on particular knowledge of each child.
P-1.2- We shall care for and educate children in positive emotional and
social environments that are cognitively stimulating and that support each
childs structure, language, ethnicity and family structure.
P-1.5- We shall use appropriate assessment systems, which include
multiple sources of information, to provide information on childrens
learning and development.
