RATED LOADS FOR

LATTICE- AND
TELESCOPIC-BOOM
CRANES
RATE LOAD FOR CRANES
Rated load is load that a machine is design to carry based on
its ideal conditions.
Loads charts can be complex document listing the numerous boom,
jibs and other components that can be employed to configure the
crane for various task.
PCSA rating standard of partial safety factor respect to tipping state
that the load lifting crane shall not exceed the following
percentage of tipping loads at specified radii :
1. Crawler-mounted machines, 75%
2. Rubber-tire-mounted machines, 85%
3. Machines on outriggers, 85%
Loads capacity depends on the quadrant position of boom with respect to
the machines undercarriage.
CRAWLER MOUNTED CRANES

In crawler cranes case, loads capacity depends on the
quadrant position of boom with respect to the machines
undercarriage.
In this case, there are three quadrant that should be

1. Over the side

WHEEL MOUNTED CRANES

In the case of wheel mounted cranes, the quadrants of
consideration will vary with the configuration of the outrigger
location.
The 4 outrigger located 2 on each sides, one set located
forward and one set to the rear
The quadrants are usually defined by imaginary line running
from the superstructure center of rotation through the position
of the outrigger support.
The three quadrant to consider are :
1. Over the side
2. Over the rear (of the carrier)
3. Over the front (of the carrier)

RATED LOAD WITH CRANES
Rated load should be based on the direction of the minimum
stability for the mounting, unless otherwise specified.
Its on assumption that the cranes is in level position (for the
full 360 of swing)
The minimum stability condition restricts the rated load
because the crane must both raise and swing loads.
The swings load motion will cause boom to move through
various quadrants, changing the loads effect on the machine.
The crane lifting capacities chart is prepared for specific crane
by the manufacturers of cranes.
