HIV-(Human
Immunodeficiency
Viruses).The viruses
compromises the bodys ability
to handle diseases and causes
AIDS.
AIDS-(ACQUIRED
IMMUNODEFICIENCY
VIRUSES).It is related to HIV,
but they are not one in same . A
person has AIDS only in final
stage of HIV , after the immune
system becomes unable to
defend itself again foreign
invaders like bacteria , other
viruses and allows the
development of certain cancers.
ETIO LO GY:

The world first became aware of

AIDS in the early 1980s
Researches arent sure exactly
.When and how HIV developed.
The most likely theories assumes
that HIV-1 was transmitted to
humans from chimpanzees
sometimes in the early 20th century.

H IV AN D AID S FACE:

According to the statistics at the end of 2006,there

were some 2.3millon children living with HIV
around the world.

Once a child is infected with HIV ,they face a high risk

of becoming ill and eventually dying of AIDS or HIV
related infections unless they can receive
treatment ,usually most successful l in the forms of
antiretroviral drugs.

These drugs can effectively slowdown the

progression of the viruses and help children live
longer and healthier lives.
CO N T ..
Children who are themselves infected with the virus
or live with parents or family members that are HIV
positive often experience stigmatization and
discrimination from their extended families, friends
and communities. This causes alienation, isolation
and depression, further decreasing their life
prospects and emotional well-being.

During their childhood most children get sickness,

like the mumps and chicken pox. However
children that are infected with either HIV or AIDS
have weaker immune system making it harder for
them to fight of these otherwise harmless sickness.
M EASU RES TO O VERCO M E:
Educate children about HIV and AIDS and teach
them basic methods for washing and looking after
patients.

Support children who are HIV positive and get them

into medical and other support programmes.

Counsel children to help them deal with their

feelings of loss and grief.

Make sure that they get the government grants they

are entitled to receive and help them get access.
Cont

Check that children are healthy and help

them get health care, vaccination and
medicines when needed.

Work with churches and welfare

organization to collect clothes, bedding
and sufficient materials.
