Water Treatment Plant

Looking at water, you might think that it's the most

simple thing around.

Pure water is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.

But it's not at all simple and plain and it is vital for
all life on Earth.

Where there is water there is life, and where water

is scarce, life has to struggle or just "throw in the
towel."

Water is life
Water is of major importance to all living things.

Up to 60 percent of the human body is Water.

Therefore the quality of Water we drink is very

important.

The Drinking Water should be totally clean, pure

and free of any disease causing MICROBES, and
thats why it should be properly Treated and
DISINFECTED before using it for drinking purpose.
Where does the water come from?
surface waters (lakes, rivers, and reservoirs)
groundwater (wells).

Distribution
Screening process removes floating raw materials out
of the water and it is the 1st and most basic process
of water purification and may be called as preliminary
stage of water treatment.
Sedimentation: This is the process for settling down
the heavier particles through the use of coagulants
like alum ,aluminum sulfate, aluminum chloride and
sodium aluminate
Aeration also helps in removing toxic elements from
water.
Aeration as a water treatment practice is used for the following
operations:
carbon dioxide reduction (decarbonation)
oxidation of iron and manganese found in many well waters
(oxidation tower)
ammonia and hydrogen sulfide reduction (stripping)
Aeration is also an effective method of bacteria control
Chemicals cause the precipitation of minerals so that
they clump together and remove bacteria

There are 3 mainly used disinfection methods at large

scale.

CHLORINATION
OZONATION
ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION

A small amount of chlorine is added or some other

disinfection method is used to kill microorganisms that
may be in the water.
Clarrifier
The water passes through filters, some made of layers of
sand, and charcoal that help remove smaller particles.
Sludge Formation
The process finally separates sludge out of raw water
to provide pure water, which may be used for plantation
and with further processinbg may be used for drinking.
The sludge can also be used as an effective fuel after
drying for someday under sunlight.
WATER IS PRECIOUS,
SAVE IT FOR THE FUTURE
GENERATION.
