Plot Summary

Chronicles the experiences of a


formerly successful banker as a
prisoner in the gloomy jailhouse of
Shawshank after being found guilty
of a crime he did not commit.

The film portrays the man's unique


way of dealing with his new,
torturous life; along the way he
befriends a number of fellow
prisoners, most notably a wise
long-term inmate named Red.

Stephen Edwin King (born September 21, 1947) is an American
author of horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction, and
fantasy.

King has published 54 novels, including seven under the pen name
Richard Bachman, and six non-fiction books. He has written nearly
200 short stories, most of which have been collected in book
collections.

His novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption was the


basis for the movie The Shawshank Redemption which is widely
regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.

Frank rpd Darabont (born Darabont Ferenc rpd; January
28, 1959) is a French-Hungarian-American film director,
screenwriter and producer who has been nominated for three
Academy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

In his early career he was primarily a screenwriter for horror


films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors,
The Blob and The Fly II. As a director he is known for his
film adaptations of Stephen King novels such as The
Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist.

Considered joining the Air Force to become a fighter pilot


but opted to stay with acting instead.

Worked as a mechanic in the United States Air Force.

The movie was filmed in 1993
at the Ohio State Reformatory.
It was an actual prison that was
built in 1886 and closed in
1990. It was meant to be
demolished, but after
Shawshank was filmed there, a
group of people set about trying
to restore the prison. Its now a
major tourist site with over
80,000 people visiting last year.

addition.

The movie was supposed to


end with Red searching for
Andy but the director wanted
a more fulfilling ending for
the audience. Thus, he added
this scene in final later.
