WHY TO GO
FOR DIESEL-ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE?

No gears are used , as they may be as large as engine itself.

Speed control is obtained by varying field excitation of motors.
Braking preferred is Rheostat (Dynamic) rather than air pressure braking.
Less maintenance is required.
Speed of locomotive in forward as well as reverse direction is same

the drive shaft and this drives the various items needed to power
the locomotive. As the transmission is electric, the engine is used as
the power source for the electricity generator or alternator. In other
words it act as prime-mover for the alternator.

TURBO CHARGER

Function :-

It increase the amount of air pushed into

the cylinders.

It increase the power output of diesel

engine by increasing the amount of fuel
burnt in cylinders.

Advantage :-

It is drive by the diesel engine exhaust

that means it give more power with no
