Question1:
1) Do you think that companies should have policy that allows
all employees to work at home? Why or why not? How would
you determine which jobs are best suited for working at home.

No, Not all departments are applicable for this policy, example:
administration, finance, HR. However these departments can
opt for flexible working hours. These departments are required
to station in office because these departments require
collaboration & communication for daily operation.
Manufacturing based companies are not suitable for home
based works, because it is impossible to bring machine &
equipment to home.
For those artistic jobs (which are related to creativity , like
fashion designer, song writer) , they need suitable place, own
time, and inspiration to compose new ideas.
Sales & marketing , and purchasing departments are suitable
for home-based, because they can make quotation at home,
and meet their clients at outside at own times.
Question2:
2) What role can technology play in allowing employees to
work work at home? Do you believe that interaction using
technology can replace interpersonal face to face interaction
between employees or between employees and their
manager?

Modern mobile applications, example: Whatapps, Telegram,

Skype, Tango, WeChat, Facebook Messenger. It provides
instant & real time communication among staff without
physically face to face interaction. This will saves time in
travelling for meeting. It will be borderless communication with
counterpart from different and far locations.
Technology can not totally replace interpersonal face to face
interaction between employees or between employees and
their manager. It is better to organize meeting with all
employees or individual employees for discussion. The success
on the business in company depends on managing peoples,
instead of technology. Managers need to manage people, not
technology.
Question3:
3) What role should HR play in helping a companys leaders
decide if a work-at-home policy is approciate? What kind of
information should HR provide to help in the decision making?

HR needs to survey among department heads whether work

at-home policy is necessary.
HR will provide overhead cost comparison for HOD to make
them aware about the potential saving.
HR should provide the attendance record, leave record &
disciplinary record to HOD to decide whether the staff is
suitable to work at home.
HR should set guideline for HOD to manage, monitor, and
evaluate performance on the staff who are assigned to work at
home.
HR should develop flexible work agreement (which includes
remuneration package & suitable leave policy and code of
conduct) between these employees and company to maintain
integrity and transparency.
