Intervention (RTI)

What is RTI?
It is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support
of students with learning and behavior needs.
It begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of
all students.
It is designed for use when making decisions in both general
education and special education, creating a well-integrated
system of instruction and intervention guided by the outcome
data.

The School Counselors Role
According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA); today's school
counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of:

academic achievement
personal/social development
career development
ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

This is achieved by:

Advocacy.
Leadership.
Collaboration.
Systemic change.
The School Counselor and RTI
Uses data to complete ongoing assessments and determine curriculum
outcomes.
Uses research based interventions matched specifically to the student
need
Collaborates with stakeholders for the most comprehensive program.
These stakeholders include:
School Administration and Personnel
Teachers
Parents
Educational Specialists
Additional Professionals
Students
RTI is a school-wide
framework for efficiently
allocating resources to
improve student outcomes
and ensure that all
students reach their fullest
potential.
