Simple Present tense
(uses)
The simple present tense in English
is used to describe:
1. For repeated or regular
actions in the present time period.
I always go to school by bus.
We play soccer with my friends every Sunday.
2) For universal truths
Sun rises in the east.
The birds fly.
Babies cry.
Man needs water
to live.
3) For habits and routines.
I get up early in the morning.

Alan brushes his teeth twice


a day.
4. For things that are always
/generally permanent true.
I live in Cartagena.
They speak English
fluently.
She has beautiful eyes.
5. To refer future time, fixed future
events on timetables calendars.
The train leaves at 5:00.
The class begins
at night.
The bank closes at 4:00, but now its noon.
Rules of Present Simple Tense

The verbs keep the basic form in the most of pronouns:
PLAY I play Remember we can change
you play nouns for Personal Pronouns:
we play The students --- They
they play You and I ----- We
IMPORTANT: We put S or ES in the third
singular person (SHE HE IT)
1)For verbs that end in -O, -CH, -SH, -SS, -X, or -
Z we add -ES in the third person.

WashES BuzzES an animal/thing--It
2) For verbs that end in Y, after a consonant, we
change the Y for I and add ES. Examples:

CrIES

Remember: Some verbs do not have rules
or do not change. For example:
