PAUL LEAVES EPHESUS FOR MACEDONIA AND ACHAIA
[VV1-6]
Then went to Achaia
So decided to go back
through Macedonia
Then came to Philippi
Saturday evening
Hugged him
In a hurry to arrive in
Jerusalem by the day of
Pentecost
Did not want to lose any time
in the province of Asia
Sent message to the elders
of the church of Ephesus to
meet him in Miletus
PAULS FAREWELL TO THE EPHESIAN ELDERS AT MILETUS
[VV13-38]
Pauls farewell message to the
elders of Ephesus
1) Spoke of his ministry to them
at Ephesus
Reminded them of how he
had lived & worked among
them with great humility and
suffering
Of his testing by the Jews and
his faithful preaching &
teaching ministry, both to the
Jews & Gentiles
PAULS FAREWELL TO THE EPHESIAN ELDERS AT MILETUS
[VV13-38]
2) Spoke about his future
sufferings
The Spirit compelling him to
go to Jerusalem [he did not
know what would await him
except more trials &
suffering]
His overriding concern - not
his life but that he might
complete the task Christ had
given him
PAULS FAREWELL TO THE EPHESIAN ELDERS AT MILETUS
[VV13-38]
Declared his conscience
was clear that he had not
shrunk from his responsibility
of preaching Gods whole
purpose of salvation to them
Told them he was not
responsible if any of them
perished
PAULS FAREWELL TO THE EPHESIAN ELDERS AT MILETUS
[VV13-38]
3) Exhorted the elders to keep
watch over themselves & the
flock God had given them
To be vigilant there would be
people both form outside &
inside who would come like
fierce wolves and teach false
doctrines and cause Gods
people to go astray
Asked them to be watchful &
remember that he had taught
them faithfully with many tears
for three years
PAULS FAREWELL TO THE EPHESIAN ELDERS AT MILETUS
[VV13-38]
4) Committed them to God and His
word of grace to build them up and
to bless them
5) Declared that he had never
coveted anyones money or goods
but had supported himself and his
companions
6) Showed them by his example of
hard work that they were to follow
him in helping the weak
7) Ended by telling them to
remember Jesus saying that there
is more happiness in giving than in
receiving
PAULS FAREWELL TO THE EPHESIAN ELDERS AT MILETUS
[VV13-38]
When Paul finished speaking
Knelt down with them &
prayed
Elders were all crying as they
hugged and kissed Paul
goodbye
They were all feeling sad
because he had told them that
they would never see him
again
They went with him to the ship
