William Shakespeare

Actor, Poet, and Playwright
A) Shakespeare was born on April
23, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon
in England
B) His father was a glove-maker
who was once the mayor of
Stratford
C) He attended school no further
than the eighth grade
D) In 1582 he married Anne Hathaway
and had three children with her
E) In 1590, Shakespeare traveled to
London (without his family) to work
as an actor and playwright
F) Public and critical success quickly
followed and he became the most
popular playwright in England
G) Shakespeare prospered as an
actor, playwright, and manager of
the Lord Chamberlains Men
acting company.
H) Shakespeares financial success
allowed him to become part
owner of the Globe Theatre

playhouse).
After the death of Queen Elizabeth I
in 1603, Shakespeares acting
company became the Kings Men,
under King James I.
J) In 1612, Shakespeare returned to
live with his family in Stratford

Shakespeare died at the age of 52
and was buried in Holy Trinity

The Globe Theatre
A) This theatre was the most popular
playhouse in a suburb of London
B) The Globe was an open-air building
with so many sides it appeared to be
circular
