PROBLEM
Mr. Mendoza is a department manager in XYZ Company that
specializes in the production of semiconductor materials and
electronic components. An equipment selection is going to
happen and he is the one chosen to handle the project. He in
charge of approving and accepting the bids of companies that
will provide machines in the production of the electronic
components. These contracts involve a huge amounts money since
these machines are very expensive. Therefore it should be
checked properly and inspected to be of the best standards
and finest quality for the high production output rate.
ANA Company offered the best quality equipment as
per inspection but in a very expensive amount. CEA
Company on the other hand provided equipment that
are not of the best performance. XYZ has a very limited
budget, so Mr. Mendoza is contemplating on which one
to choose. The XYZ Company values the highest
standards in every way at all times. However the budget
allotted for buying new machines is not sufficient based
from the given offer by the ANA Company it was not
selected by Mr. Mendoza and chose the CEA Company
to have the contract for the machines instead.
His decision was also influenced by the promise given by Mr. De
Leon, Engineer in Sales Representative in CEA Company, who
offered Mr. Mendoza a brand new car so that he would hand
the contract to his company. Mr. Mendoza accepted the offer
because he taught that is was for the best. Later on Ms. Garcia
a department head maintenance engineer heard of complaints
that when the equipment was used in production, it did not meet
the expected quality of output since some of the machines
break down a lot and production is delayed. The technicians
and engineers were having a hard time just to cope up with the
delay in production. Mr. Castro, an engineer noticed that there
is another brand of machine that is way better in performance
and wonder why it was not selected. Should he tell his superior
about it?
GIVEN
MR. MENDOZA
- Department manager in XYZ Company
- in charge of approving and accepting the bids of
companies that will provide machines in the production of
the electronic components
ANA Company offered the best quality equipment
CEA Company on the other hand provided equipment that
are not of the best performance
GIVEN
MR. DE LEON
-Engineer in Sales Representative in CEA Company
MS. GARCIA
- Department head maintenance engineer in XYZ Company
MR. CASTRO
- Engineer in XYZ Company under Ms. Garcia
PROBLEM
If Engr. Castro should or should not tell the
authorities about the issues with the newly
acquired machines.
SOLUTION AND POSSIBLE OUTCOME
Engr. Castro should approach his superior who is
Engr. Garcia and tell her what he thinks of the newly
acquired machines that are causing the delay of
production.
The possible outcome of this is that Engr. Garcia will then
go and validate the information by consulting technicians
or machine experts. If there is a probable cause, she will
take the issue to her boss and an investigation might
happen. Data can be checked to find proof that there
might be a falsification of document in terms of the quality
of performance of the machines bought from CEA
Company and all the ones involved will the handling of
contract will also be investigated and might lead to them
finding out about Engr. Mendozas actions and as a
consequence, he will be fired and sued for falsifying
documents, and violating company policy of accepting
bribes as well as making contracts that is of conflicting
interest.
As Mr. Mendoza gets fired, he would be replaced
by new department manager. Thus, the unlawful acts
done by Mr. Mendoza in the company that resulted
in the problems among engineers and delay in
production, could be prevented to happen again in
the future.[4]
IF MR. CASTRO DID NOT TELL HIS SUPERIOR
Given that scenario, there is a possibility that the entire
company may suffer greater loss and eventually, if the
company does not meet its target output, they might be in a
huge debt due to losses. Also, Mr. Mendoza will just keep
on doing this type of practice since no one told the
authorities about the machines and he wont be
investigated, they might just give complaints on the
machines bought from CEA Company.
