Health’s History
February 14, 1995
Republic act 7875 or The National Health Insurance Act
of 1995 was signed, institutionalizing the government’s
priority to provide all Filipinos with affordable, and
accessible quality health care services. The Act also
established the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation
to lead the administration of the National Health
Insurance Program. Today, about 86% of the country’s
population rely on Phil. Health for their hospitalization,
a monumental task that we, at Phil. Health take
seriously to help insure a healthier citizenry.
Who are qualified to apply Phil. Health?
anyone can, as long as you pay the premiums, which are
based on income and range from P100 to P750 a month.
You can be self-employed as a sidewalk vendor, in which
case you pay the total premium yourself; or you can be a
corporate executive who will pay P375 a month while
your company pays another P375. Overseas workers can
also enroll, and this is important for the families they
leave behind, as well as for themselves, because
hospitalization expenses incurred overseas can also be
reimbursed, subject to certain limitations.
