BOGIES
LHB HYBREED BOGIES
RIGIDLY GUIDED AXLES
to maintain parallelism and squareness
between two axles of the bogie

to act as dash-pot to damp the primary

spring vibrations

to transmit tractive and braking forces

DOUBLE ROW SPHERICAL
ROLLER BEARINGS
to provide very less rolling resistance (anti-
friction bearing).

to absorb height variations in the track by

swivel action of spherical rollers
LEAST UNSPRUNG MASS
(Weight of wheel & axle, axle box and
bearings)

To kept minimum wear and tear of

wheel and trail
to reduce transmission of track
vibrations for improved riding comfort
TWO STAGE SUSPENSION WITH
SHOCK ABSORBERS

to support vertical load primary COIL spring

and secondary AIR spring Suspension
are provided in series
to provide large amplitude of oscillations for
good riding quality.
to provide better isolation of shocks and
vibrations.
AIR SPRING ON SECONDARY
SUSPENSION
PNEUMATIC PIPING ARRGT.
For air spring
CENTRE PIVOT ARRANGEMENT

to locate and connect the bogies with the

car body underframe at the bogie centres.

to transmit tractive and braking forces.

to damp rotation oscillations by means of

silent block.
ANCHOR LINK ARRANGEMENT
to transmit tractive and braking forces
between bogie bolster and bogie frame.

to damp rotation and lateral oscillations by

means of silent block
SIDE BEARERS:
to transmit vertical load from body to bogie.

spaced 1600 mm apart at the bogie centres

for uniform loading

moves in a oil well on a spherical top

wearing piece to take care of bogie rotation
on curves.
BRAKES
clasp type brake shoes are provided on
each wheel.

high friction composition brake blocks are

used in case of bogie mounted brake
cylinder system.
to provide effective brake.
FIAT BOGIE
BOGIE GENERAL
ARRANGEMENT
DESIGN FEATURES:
Principles of force
transmission
Vertical forces:
from the body to the bogie frame through
the secondary suspension springs;
from the bogie frame to the axles through
the primary suspension springs and frame -
axle bearing control arm.
Lateral forces:
from the body to the bogie frame through
the secondary suspension springs;

from the bogie frame to the axles through

the elastic elements of the frame - axle
bearing control arm.
Longitudinal traction efforts
and braking powers:
from the body to
bogie frame
through the
traction centre
rods and the
traction lever; from
the bogie frame to
the axles through
the frame - axle
bearing control
Curve negotiation:
An articulated control arm is connecting axle
bearing and side frame through elastic
connection, which will provide flexibility
between axle and side frame.
Suspension elements:

Primary suspension consists of nested inner

and outer springs, dampers, top rubber pad
secondary suspension consists of nested
flexi-coils springs (inner and outer
springs),rubber spring, vertical dampers,
lateral dampers, anti-roll bars, anchor links.
Secondary rubber pad is inserted below and
above secondary springs provides flexible
ends of springs.
Speed limit
Upto 160KMPH without any modification
upto 200KMPH with minor modification

On the bogie each axle is
fitted with two brake disks
(4), diameter 640 mm and
width 110 mm.
Axle bearings
A taper roller
cartridge type
bearing is used.
It is a pre-assembled
unit not required any
further intervention,
such as clearance
adjustments.
The axle bearings
on the bogie are
fitted with sensors
for detecting speed
BOGIE FRAME
The bogie frame is a solid welded frame
made by steel sheets and forged or cast
parts.
The frame is made up of two longitudinal
components connected by two cross-beams
(2) which also support the brake units.
The various supports which connect the
different bogie components are welded to the
frame.
The bogie frame rests on the primary
suspension spring units and supports the
vehicle body by means of a bolster beam.
The bolster beam is connected to the bogie
frame by secondary suspension.
