PLACE FOR FOOD


INTRODUCTION
-Penang has the reputation as being the "food paradise" in the region as it
offers a diverse and exotic mix of Malay, Indian, Chinese and western
cuisine, which reflects the multicultural mix of the city

-Penang gourmet ranges from street food to fine dining but her myriad of
flavours are definitely unique to the island state

-Many Malaysians hold Penang as the top foodies destination in the region,
not because of some fancy restaurants but rather for the humble eateries and
stalls that line the streets

-Since Penang is synonymous with good food, there are many places where
one can find a good concentration of hawker stalls and restaurants on the
island, especially in Georgetown

Kandar,Roti Canai, Ikan Bakar,Cendol
ROTI CANAI
Roti canai is a type of Indian-influenced
flatbread found in Malaysia often sold in Mamak
stalls in Penang,Malaysia

It is a type of fried unleavened bread, having a


chewy, flaky texture and typically served with a
curried dipping sauce as a light meal or snack.

IKAN BAKAR
Ikan bakar is a Malaysian dish of charcoal-grilled fish
or other forms of seafood.

The fish is marinated with mixture of spices pastes,


and sometimes with belacan or kicap manis (sweet
soy sauce) and then grilled.

The chilies packed marinade is extremely flavorful,


but not overly spicy

CHAR KWAY TEOW
Char Kway Teow, literally "stir-fried rice cake strips",
is a popular noodle dish in Malaysia and its Penangs
most famous street food

The dish is commonly stir-fried with egg, slices of


Chinese sausage, fishcake, beansprouts, and less
commonly with other ingredients

Its commonly served over a slice of banana leaf to


seizure the desired wok hei aroma that
complements the overall dish.

NASI
KANDAR
Nasi kandar is a popular northern Malaysian dish, which
originates from Penang

The rice is accompanied by side dishes such as fried chicken,


curried beef spleen, cubed beef, lamb, fish roe, fried prawns
or fried squid.

There is a whole stretch of Nasi Kandar restaurants in Penang


since Nasi Kandar is originated from Penang
