Create Well Database

Hampson-Russell
Geoview A well database contains wells and
Well Database formation tops for an area, and each well
contains several logs. Seismic data can
Load Logs
also be loaded into the database, but this
Load Tops
is explained in the Elog module.

The files needed can be downloaded from
Elog here:

Create a new database by accessing the

New option under the Database pull-
down menu.
Type in an appropriate name for the
database and click OK.

Well logs, horizon and seismic data needs

to be added to the database.

The log file has one header line
Check Shot which must be skipped when
Elog reading the file. The sampling is
Strata not uniform, and the depths are in
column# 1.

Fill in the form as shown to the

right. Header information abut the
columns in the log file can be
obtained by clicking the Display
File button. The elastic impedance
log is generated at 36.

The log names must be unique

within the same well. That is, there
can exist two EI/Vp in different
wells at the same time, but not in
the same well.

Check Shot Correction

Hampson-Russell
Geoview Due to uncertainties, the P-wave log
Well Database only rarely matches the two way
travel time on the seismic. Hence
Load Logs
needs the P-wave log to be corrected.

It is common to shoot a check shot

table by placing sensors in the bore
Elog hole and fire an air gun from the rig as
Strata shown to the right. These travel times
are converted to interval travel times
corresponding to the P-wave log, and
a drift curve is computed. This curve is
then used for interpolation.

Elog Note that the P-
Strata impedance log is nearly
constant trough the top
reservoir transition,
implying that the
reservoir zone should be
hard to identify on near-
and full offset stack.

The elastic impedance

log is generated at 36,
corresponding to the
incidence angle for the
far offset stack. In
comparison, this log
suggests that the top
reservoir should show up
as a trough on the far
offset stack, which in
turn might be easier to
pick.
