Objective
Share experiences in effective management of
student projects and to learn successful
practices from others
Improve the quality of B.Tech. student projects
To bring professionalism in the students
To bring out skills enabling students to work in
teams
B.Tech. Project - Outcomes
Well-trained students
More specifically students acquire
System integration skills
Documentation skills
Project management skills
Problem solving skills
Unique opportunity to solve real-life
problems
Professionalism

BTech Project Management 3

Present Scenario
Making Project Group as per Convenience
Guidance to trace the ready made project
shops
Visit the showroom and selection of projects
based on cost and appearance
Purchase the project and report from vendor
Study the report day before examination and
appear in oral exam
Getting marks just to clear graduation
Present Scenario
Projects
Examination Time
Expert Interpretation

When we evaluate students who completed

B Tech, some of them with very high marks,
we find that 95% of the students have not
done justice to the project work or are
completely ignorant on the work they claim to
have done.
Most of these shops are run by ITI people or
people from no background which further add
to the concern for technical education.
Purpose of Project
To develop individual and managerial skill
To prepare graduates who will create new ways
to meet society's needs with their knowledge and
skill gained through graduation.
To provide opportunity for students to work as
part of teams on multidisciplinary subjects.
Relate the theoretical knowledge to real world
problem in context with Mechanical Engineering
To gain confidence in chosen field
Problems.????????
Students want Spoon feeding from guides
Opening of showroom
Lack of coordination between Industry and
institute
Lack of inspiration and guidance
Lack of skill and disinterest in course
Lack of utilization of resources
Lack of interaction between student
and guide
What you should focus on
Relate concepts and principle you have
learned
Review available literature
Use both analysis and synthesis
Apply logic, technology and common sense
Relate the available knowledge to real world
problems

of auto or mechanical systems,
optimization problems, new design,
improved performance using software like
ANSYS, NASTRAN, HYPERMESH etc. )
Selection of Project
CFD Projects
Thermal analysis, flow analysis, aerodynamics
improvement using software like FLUENT etc.
Industrial Projects
Implementation of TQM, JIT, Six sigma, Kaizen
in an industry
Case studies in industry

Identify your strength and skill
Select a project work which will enhance this
skill set.
Try to search from the existing problems
Identify nature and objective of project
(Theoretical or experimental)
Consult with Project Guide to evaluate
feasible study
Planning

Discuss about this project with people who is

already working in similar areas.
Read about the subject from books, internet
and research papers
Note the reference of your sources
Set the target

Organize the project according to given
structure and format
While writing make sure that ideas are logical
Use standard referencing style
Dont copy

Advantages
An industry oriented project can add extra
weightage to your resume and help you get a
good job in an industry.
A technically good project can give you an
added advantage if you are planning for
higher studies.
A good project can be patented and reward
you in terms of money and reputation.
