TheLok SabhaorHouse of the Peopleisthelowerhouseofthe

ParliamentofIndia.MembersoftheLokSabhaareelectedbydirectelectionunder
universaladultsuffrage.Asof2009,therehavebeenfifteenLokSabhaselectedby
thepeopleofIndia.TheConstitutionlimitstheLokSabhatoamaximumof552
members,includingnomorethan20membersrepresentingpeoplefromthe
UnionTerritories,andtwoappointednon-partisanmemberstorepresentthe
Anglo-Indiancommunity(ifthePresidentfeelsthatthatcommunityisnot
adequatelyrepresented).
TheLokSabhahascertainpowersthatmakeitmorepowerfulthantheRajyaSabha.
MoneybillscanonlybeintroducedintheLokSabha,anduponbeingpassed,are
senttotheRajyaSabha,whereitcanbedeliberatedonforupto14days.Ifnot
rejectedbytheRajyaSabha,or14dayslapsefromtheintroductionofthebillin
theRajyaSabhawithoutanyactionbytheHouse,orrecommendationsmadeby
theRajyaSabhaarenotacceptedbytheLokSabha,thebillisconsideredpassed.
ThebudgetispresentedintheLokSabhabytheFinanceMinisterinthenameof
thePresidentofIndia.


FirsthourofeverysittingiscalledtheQuestionHour,duringwhich
questionsposedbymembersmaybea`ssignedtospecificgovernment
ministries,tobeansweredatafixeddateinthefuture.
ThreesessionsofLokSabhatakeplaceinayear:
Budgetsession:FebruarytoMay.
Monsoonsession:JulytoSeptember.
Wintersession:NovembertoDecember.
