1. Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine (Kawit, Cavite)
We cannot free ourselves
unless we move forward united
by a single desire. Emilio
Aguinaldo
Unquestionably, the Aguinaldo Shrine is the most relevant on June
12. Considered as the birthplace of the nation, since this is where the
proclamation of Philippine Independence took place, from the
window of the grand hall of the mansion to be exact. The national
shrine contains three main parts: the main house, the tower and the
family wing. Inside the mansion are various memorabilia of the late
president, hidden rooms and secret passageways, and many
interesting information about the revolution.
2. Tirad Pass (Vigan, Ilocos Sur)
"The General (Emilio Aguinaldo) has given me a platoon of available men
and has ordered me to defend this pass. I am aware what a difficult task
has been given to me. Nevertheless, I feel that this is the most glorious
moment of my life. I am doing everything for my beloved country. There is
no greater sacrifice." Gregorio Del Pilar
Ever heard of The Battle of Tirad Pass? It was a fight that raged between
Filipino and American soldiers at a mountain pass in the highlands of Ilocos
Sur. Against three hundred Americans, sixty Filipino soldiers, led by
Brigadier General Gregorio Del Pilar, fought a nevertheless great battle with
eight people to make it out alive.
Today, Tirad Pass serves as a symbol and testament of bravery, heroism,
and sacrifice of Del Pilar and his men. Along the trail of the popular tourist
site is a shrine of Del Pilar on a horseback that marks the late generals
burial spot.
3. Rizal Park (Roxas Boulevard, Manila)
On this battlefield man has no better weapon than his intelligence,
no other force but his heart. Jose Rizal _
Perhaps the most accessible for Metro Manila residents, Rizal Park,
otherwise known as Luneta Park, is where the national heros
execution took place on December 30, 1896, which sparked the
Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonizers on 1898. The
attraction in Roxas Boulevard contains the Independence Flagpole,
Jose Rizals monument as well as his remains.
Apart from the traditional flag raising ceremony and other rituals
during Independence Day, Rizal Park is also a venue for Philippine
Presidential Inaugurations, which are taking place at the Quirino
Frandstand; and other important events in the calendar, including
religious gatherings.
