Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics
which deals with the measurement of sides
and angles of triangles and their relationship
with each other.

Functions Using Quadrant
Reference Angle for an angle is the positive
acute angle made by terminal side of angle
and the x-axis.
It is marked with letter .
Example:
Find the value of reference angle for each angle:

(i) 135
(ii) 196
(iii) 350
(iv) 250
Example:
Given sin 25=0.4226, cos 25=0.9063 and
tan 25= 0.4663, find the value of sin , cos
and tan for each of the following angle.

i) 155
ii) 205
iii) 335
SPECIAL ANGLE (30, 45 AND 60)
Example :

Find the value of trigonometry functions for each angle:

(i) Tan 45
(ii) Cos 300
(iii) Sin 150
Finding the Angles Between 0 360. Given
Values of sin , cos and tan .

Example:

(i) Given that sin = 0.6025 and 0 360 , find the value of .

(i) Given that cos = -0.7660 and 0 360 , find the value of .

(i) Given that tan = -3.7321 and 0 360 , find the value of .

2. If cos = , find the possible
13
values of sin
Example:

Find the angle between 0 and

360 which satisfy the following
equations.

1. 2 cos2 + sin = 1
2. 2 cot2 + csc = 4
Exercise:

Solve the equation

Tan (AB) =
1tan tan
Example :
Without using calculators, find the value of:

(i) Sin 15
(ii) Tan 105
(iii) Cos 75
Exercise :
Solve the equation 4 sin (x-20)=5 cos x for values of
X between 0 and 90 .
The Double-Angle Formula
Solve the following equations for 0 x 360:

(i) 4 sin 2x = sin x

(ii)Tan 2 = 2 cot
(iii)3 cos 2y = cos y + 2
(iv)4 sin x cos x = 1
Exercise:

Solve the equation 4 cos 2y + 1 = 3 sin y

for 0 y 360.
