Suggestions - Increasing Industrialization Leading to higher
Freight Traffic
Dedicated freight corridors (DFC), which are being constructed on
eastern and western corridors to ensure smooth flow of freight on
Howrah-Delhi and Mumbai- Delhi route.
Double stacking of containers should be done and terminals and
junctions should be upgraded to handle unitised cargo.
Provide real time information about the freight.
Freight trains should be run at 100 Kmph, to ensure fast delivery of
goods.
Differential pricing should be introduced by launching premium
freight service which would assure faster delivery within time, a
great model to increase revenue
Upgrading the existing technology
Privatisation of railways
DFCCIL, a special purpose vehicle, was set up for implementing the
DFC project under the administrative control of the Ministry of
Railways
The plan is to construct dedicated freight lines along the Eastern
(1856 km route length) & Western (1504 km route length) parts of
India
Total length: 3,360 kilometers; total estimated cost: USD12.44
billion
