WARM UP :
Teacher asks Ss about what positive & negative aspects they
find in city living.
Students share their ideas about the topic.
Students learn new vocabulary about the topic.

PRACTICE:
Students listen to an audio (2) and
answer the following questions:
1. What urban problem are they
talking about? (1)
2. Why does not Alberto live near the
office? (2)
3. How long is Albertos commute in
the evenings? (2)
Students see the LINKING WORDS,
teacher writes some examples on the
board related to the topic.
PRODUCTION:
Students work in pairs to write a list of urban problems.
Students work in groups of three and are assigned one of the
urban problems listed below.
They identify what is causing that problem and suggest possible
solutions to it.
They have a discussion using the LINKING WORDS .
Finally there is a debate and the teacher is the moderator.

We have chosen them because it is important to
develop speaking skills with the students and make
them part of the class by asking their ideas and
previous concepts and knowledge.

We have chosen them because we consider them useful
for the aim of the class, to help students develop
speaking skills by learning new vocabulary and
learning by their peers.

about the class? Why?

Students are in intermediate level, so they have more
vocabulary
They have experienced some urban problems, so
they know the topic.
They like to work in groups.
4. What problems do you anticipate?
What are possible solutions to these
problems?

Some problems with the new vocabulary according to the
topic.
Possible solution: teacher gives more example about
the meaning.
Lack of motivation due to the topic.
Possible solution: teacher engages them by asking what
are the urban problems they have in their area
Possible conflicts with the use and order of linking words
in sentences.
Possible solution: teacher writes more examples on
the board using the new vocabulary related to the
topic.
