WHAT IS CREATIVE ARTS?
Activities that are able to engage a childs imagination and creativity
This creativity can be explored through music, drama, dance, media arts and visual arts
Through creative arts children are able to express themselves, develop a sense of identity
an make meaning of the world in which they live
EDUCATIONAL, HOME AND COMMUNITY SETTING
Educational - most formal places in which young children learn. The provide children with the
knowledge and skills they will need later in life to become functioning members of society.
Home setting: using spoons and pots as percussion instruments to make music
Community setting: music performances, community music groups such as Rhythm Rumble
DRAMA
Educational setting: Dramatic corner
- Within this space, materials and items such as menus, chef hats, cutlery, a cash register and pretend food
will prompt the children to use their imagination and recall from their own experiences of going to a
restaurant with their families.
Home setting: dress-up box filled with hats, clothes and other props that child can use as different
costumes.
Home setting: create an open floor space for the children to dance safety in the home
Dance is a place where children become their own creations (Sansom, 2011)
MEDIA ARTS
Educational setting: screen projector on the wall, iPad with interactive e-books
Technology plays an essential role in the lives of children in the 21st century (Wright, 2012)
VISUAL ARTS
Educational setting: art and crafts table for the young learners
Home setting: easel and paints or different mediums for the child to create their artwork with
Community setting: Visiting a local community art gallery is great experience for young children
PEDAGOGY
Children learn best when they have the assistance from others as they are given the guidance
they need
Cognitive conflict explains that the child is able to understand discrepancies between what they
already know and new perspectives on information that they are experiencing in their everyday
lives
