Propsito
La LISTA DE EQUIPO MINIMO (MEL) tiene por objeto
permitir el despacho de cualquier tipo de vuelo efectuado por la compaa con ciertos tems o componentes del avin inoperativos, siempre que se traspase la funcin afectada a otro componente operativo o se opere con referencia a otros instrumentos o componentes capaces de suplir la informacin requerida. El MEL de Lan Chile, est basado en el MASTER MEL (MMEL) emitido por la FAA.

Este documento y sus revisiones son preparadas por Lan Chile y adems est sujeto a la aprobacin del Departamento de Aeronavegabilidad de la DGAC de Chile. Para el despacho con elementos secundarios de la estructura o del motor faltantes, debe consultarse la LISTA DE DESVIACION DE CONFIGURACION (CDL). Cada vez que una falla no es completamente solucionada antes del despacho, la tripulacin debe verificar si el despacho es realmente posible de acuerdo al MEL. An cuando las fallas nuevas caigan en el intervalo de reparacin de categora A y no se requieran acciones de mantenimiento inmediatas, la tripulacin igual debe informar a Mantenimiento lo antes posible.

Las fallas detectadas en el ltimo vuelo deben ser chequeadas por si caen o no, en el intervalo de reparacin (REPAIR INTERVAL) de categora A. Si fuera afirmativo, debe registrarse, con la referencia correspondiente del MEL, en el libro de mantenimiento. Los tems de categora A, como asimismo aquellos que deben estar operativos para todos los vuelos (tems no - go), deben ser reportados a Mantenimiento lo antes posible.

La intencin del MEL es permitir las operaciones con equipos
inoperativos por el periodo de tiempo necesario para organizar y concretar las reparaciones. Definitivamente NO es intencin del MEL transformarse en una herramienta para permitir una operacin prolongada o incluso permanente de los aviones en una configuracin alejada de su condicin certificada. Por ello, Mantenimiento har todo el esfuerzo para corregir todas las irregularidades tcnicas lo antes posible y que el avin sea entregado por la Base de Mantenimiento, en plenas condiciones operacionales y de acuerdo a su correspondiente estado de certificacin.

De acuerdo a la duracin del vuelo con un equipo
inoperativo, los tems del MEL estn categorizados por letras que aparecen en la columna "REPAIR INTERVAL". Al menos que se haya completado su reparacin, a ningn avin se le permitir comenzar un vuelo despus que se ha vencido el perodo de tiempo definido ms adelante.

y/o componente tal que no est cumpliendo con el propsito para el cual fue diseado y/o no est funcionando normalmente dentro de sus limites o tolerancias aprobadas. Componentes inoperativos de un sistema inoperativo: Los items inoperativos que forman parte de un componente inoperativo se consideran componentes directamente asociados con y que no tienen otra funcin que soportar a ese sistema. (Los sistemas de Warning/caution asociados a ese tem inoperativo deben estar operativos a menos que el MEL disponga expresamente otra cosa).
