Introduction
Crude oil & Natural gas products are essential for humans
everyday usage such as petrol, diesel, Electronic gadgets, etc.,
Billions of dollars and so much efforts are involved in crude
oil & natural gas exploration, extraction, refining, transportation,
marketing and so on until reaching the end users.
In recent decades, Extraction of crude oil & natural gas
happens in offshore ( Ocean/Sea Deep water).
To extract the oil or gas, Either the fixed platforms or Floaters
( FPSO,FSRU,FSO,etc.,) are to be used.
The main considerations in floaters are weight & material
selection. The material selection is much important because of
the marine atmosphere.

2
OBJECTIVE:
Reducing the weight of floaters (FPSO) by investigating,
implementing composite material for floor plating,
coaming/bunded application by replacing the carbon
steel.

Corrosion of carbon steel plating in bunded area around

the vessel/equipment due to stagnation of the fire water,
rain water and spillage of the corrosive fluids are to be
evaluated in order to replace by composite.

Pancake flooring acts as the fire protection barrier
between hull & topside.

VARIOUS STUDIES FOR THIS PROJECT:

Selection of the composite material suitable to withstand as

like carbon steel in pancake level & upper level.
Amount of weight reduction by implementing the Composite
material.(Around 12% in 90,000 Tonne FPSO when carbon
steel is used.)
Benefits against Corrosion compared to carbon steel.
Various interfaces with structural beams/grating and piping
like how it can be joined and penetration of hole for
piping.(As shown in below snaps for carbon steel)
Benefits of the weight reduction & how its utilized in
production costs.
Blast analysis for pancake level plating using suitable
software
