TO CHEMISTRY

Name : Jaslyn Chow & Ester Liew

Class : 4Y (2016)
1. CHEMISTRY AND ITS IMPORTANCE
What isChemistry ?
-The study of the composition ,structure
,properties and the interactions of matter .

Importance of Chemistry
-Everything is made of the chemicals
.Many of changes we observe in the world
around are caused by chemical reactions .
Chemistry is very important in :-

Help to
turn our Medicine
breakfast
Help into
furnace energy
to heat
our home Make drugs to
fight against
diseases
Daily
Life

Agriculture
Transportation
Synthesis
Make fuels for
fertilizers to grow
transportation abundant food
2 .COMMON CHEMICALS USED IN DAILY LIFE
Many of the chemicals are useful in our
daily life .
Examples of the common chemicals and
their uses :-
Common chemicals Uses
Table salt /sodium Gives salty taster
chloride (NaCl)
Calcium Carbonate Make marble tiles
(CaCO3)
Washing Soda / Sodium Used in cleaning or
carbonate decahydrate washing
(Na2CO3.10H2O)
Common Chemicals Uses
Natural Gas /methane Used in cooking or heating
(CH4)
Baking soda /sodium Raises the dough for bread
hydrogen carbonate making
Water (H2O) Used for drinking ,bathing
,watering plants and so on
Mouthwash /hydrogen Used for our personal
peroxide hygiene by cleaning our
mouth
Table glucose /sucrose Gives sweet tastes

Baking Soda furnace

3. CAREERS THAT USE CHEMISTRY
Chemistry opens the door to many careers .
Knowledge of chemistry is useful to almost and
everyone and in every fields .
Fields Career Scope of Job
Biochemistry -Biochemist Study of the chmistry of
-Researcher living organisms especially
the structure and function
of their chemical
compounds
Medicine -Doctor Treat people who are ill and
injured
-Pharmacologist Create new drugs to cure
diseases
Education -Teacher Teach chemistry in school
and gives the knowledge to
students
4. CHEMICAL-BASED INDUSTRIES IN MALAYSIA
AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION
Chemical-based industries are responsible
for the quality of life ,manufacturing a
various range of useful products
Chemical-based Products
industries

5. SCIENTIFIC METHODS
A systematic approach used by scientists to
investigate a phenomena .
Making Conducting Collecting
observation an experiment data

Making inference Planning an Interpreting data

/smart guess experiment

Identifying Controlling Making

problem variables conclusion

Making Identifying Writing

hypothesis variables report
6 .SCIENTIFIC ATTITUDES AND NOBLE VALUE
