Resistance

Resistance is the opposition to current.

Resistance is denoted by R.
It is expressed in the unit of ohms, which is symbolized
by the Greek letter omega ().
One ohm (1 ) of resistance exists when there is one ampere
(1 A) of current in a material with one volt (1 V) applied across
the material.
Conductance

The reciprocal of resistance is conductance.

It is symbolized by G.
It is expressed in the unit of siemens,, which is
symbolized by S.
Occasionally, the obsolete unit of mho is still used for
conductance.
Conductance Example

The conductance of a 22 k resistor is

Resistor

A device which causes resistance in an electrical

circuit is called a resistor.
In circuits resistors are denoted by following symbol:
Resistor Types
Fixed Resistors
Resistor Types
Variable Resistors
Potentiometer
Used to divide voltage (voltage controller)

Rheostat
Used to control current
Resistor Applications
To limit current
To divide voltage
To generate heat
Resistor Color Codes
Color codes are used to indicate the R value of a resistor.
Resistor Color Codes
Color codes are used to indicate the R value of a resistor.
Color Codes
Resistor Label Codes
Some resistors, e.g. potentiometers, SMD type, etc. bear numbers instead
of color bands to indicate their value.
Electric Circuit
Arrangement of physical components that use voltage, current and
resistance to perform some useful functions.
Closed Circuit
Circuit which offers a complete path to the flow of charge.
Open Circuit
Circuit which offers a complete path to the flow of charge.
