Article 70 73
Art. 70
Successive service of sentences When the culprit has to
serve two or more penalties, he shall serve them
simultaneously if the nature of the penalties will so permit;
otherwise, the following rules shall be observed:
Death
Reclusion perpetua,
Reclusion temporal,
Prision mayor,
Prision correctional,
Arresto mayor,
Arresto menor,
Destierro,
Perpetual absolute disqualification,
Temporary absolute disqualification,
Suspension from public office, the right to vote and be voted for, the right to follow
profession or calling, and
Public censure
Notwithstanding the provisions of the rule next preceding, the
maximum duration of the convicts sentence shall not be more
than threefold the length of time corresponding to the most
severe of penalties imposed upon. No other penalty to which he
may be liable shall be inflicted after the sum of those imposed
equals the said maximum period.

Three-fold rule
The threefold rule is a law on the service of
prison sentence which provides that a
prisoner with multiple penalties shall not
stay longer than threefold of the most
severe penalty imposed upon him.

Note:
Severities of the two must not be judged by the duration of each
penalties but the degree of deprivation of liberty involved.
Article 72
Preference in the payment of the civil liabilities
- the civil liabilities of a person found guilty of
two or more offenses shall be satisfied by the
following the chronological order of the dates of
the final judgements rendered against him,
beginning with the first in order of time.

commission of offense rather it is satisfied by following
chronological order of the dates of the final judgements

Presumption in regard to the imposition of
accessory penalties
- Whenever the courts shall impose a penalty which
by provision of law, carries with it other penalties,
according to the provisions of Articles 40, 41, 42, 43,
44 and 45 of this Code, it must be understood that
the accessory penalties are also imposed upon the
convict.
