BACKGROUND
Bangladesh has an
area of 1,47,570 sq km
of which 20% covers
coastal areas and
about 53% coastal
area is affected by
salinity [1].

Fresh water sources

in the south-west
region of the country
can hardly meet the
demand.

BACKGROUND
Conventional saline water treatment processes cost
more money, require high energy, not eco-friendly.

Solar desalination shows exciting prospects for

renewable energy consumption, low cost and very
simple operation.
OBJECTIVE
To propose a low cost technique that produces
drinking water from saline water using solar energy.

To develop an ideal setup solely from locally available

materials that is easy to construct, operate and
maintain.
SCOPE
This study will be conducted on sea water as well as
on synthetic solution.

Yield of fresh drinkable water with seasonal &

temperature variation will be compared.

This study will focus on developing an eco-friendly

model with materials available in local market at low
cost.
