Case Presentation

Client in the case

o Client is female.
o Client age is 23 years old.
o Client have 2 children.
o Client is from Rowland, North Carolina.
Problem Statement

Client is not homeless, but lives with her abuser for 7 years. The abuse is the
children father, and trying to escape away from the abuser. She met her abuser at
the age of 18 years old, and the abuser have been physical, mentally, and
emotional abusing her. The client is dealing with substance abuse dependence
(prescription pills and alcohol).
Services that SFVC provide

Approve for shelter ( two children are females and under that age 2 year olds).
Referrals to have children in a free daycare.
Referrals to detox center and counseling for substance abuse dependence.
Transportation to daycare centers, and counseling.
Referral for Rapid Re- housing.
Transportation to Section 8 and Housing Authority and Robeson County Health Department.
Strengths and Limitations of the Client

Strengths Limitations
Have great mothering skills. Have no transportation.
Have a steady income ( been working Have substance abuse dependence on
about three years) prescription pills and alcohol.
Have supportive family members. Currently Homeless.
Have self- determination.
Have self- motivation.
Assessment Goals

Client will like to become drug free, because the courts and child protective
services are threating her about losing the two children.
Also, client would like to find housing, that accommodates her family needs and
wants. Furthermore, the client have a steady income to provide housing right
away.
The overall goal, for the client is to maintain custody of the children and relocate
to another county with the children.
Biases

In the case being judgmental of the client because the client was using prescription pills and
alcohol well pregnant with the children.
Furthermore, in having the interview with the client I understood the family dynamics better
because the clients family members were using and abusing drugs and alcohol (a cycle of
generations abusing and using substances.
Finally, I started off judgmental with the client, but later in the conversation became more aware
and knowledgeable about her life endeavors.
Life Experiences

The client had a family dynamics of sexual abuse and substance abuse by her mothers family.
The client married at a young age (18 years old), when the client married the abuser he was
age (36 years old).
The client became dependent on the abuser, and started using and abusing drugs and
alcohol to cope with the pain of being physically beaten everyday.
The client took out a DVPO (Domestic Violence Protective Order) and went court for the
abuser to become incarcerated in jail. The client understood it was time become
independent from her abuser.
Staff Recommendations

Self- empowering the client.


Self- motivation the client to become independent from any abuser.
Requiring housing daycare and housing for the client to become independent from
abuser.
Continuing being knowledgeable about domestic violence.
Always have a safety plan. No changes recommend for SFVC or their services.
