The END
The Margarita Mystery
In pairs, you will been given a set of cards
about Margarita
She is a 28-year-old woman who lives in a
rainforest village and has a very important
decision to make
You have to decide
whether she will
move to the city
or not
Use the clues to do the following:

1. Sort the cards into three piles: -

i) Push factors from the rainforest
ii) Pull factors to the city
iii) Reasons why she might want to stay in the
rainforest
2. Then rank the 3 piles from the least to the most
convincing arguments
3. Now it is time to make your
decision. Should Margarita
stay in the rainforest or
move to Rio de Janeiro?
You must give reasons for
your answer (look at the
mark scheme on
the back of the leaflet
and the list of helpful
key words before answering)
Finished already???
Bonus questions: Can you think what problems
might be caused if lots of people from rural areas
in Brazil decided to move to cities such as Rio de
Janeiro? How would this
affect both the city and
the rural area that the
people are moving
from? Answer in
full sentences.
Peer assessment
Swap papers!
Use the criteria on the back page
of your leaflet to mark the piece
of work
You will need to give an
achievement mark (A-D) and an
effort mark (1-4)
Then write a comment about
what you liked about their work &
how they could improve it further
Self assessment
Once you have received your
mark check it to see if you
agree with your grade using the
same criteria
Then set yourself a target for
future work
E.g. To write in more detail,
To consider both sides of an
argument or To try to improve
my presentation/ spelling etc
Homework
To write out the answer again in
your books, this time using the
advice on how to improve and
the target you
set yourself
Have we met our
objectives?

What is a push factor?
What is a pull factor?
Give an example of a push factor for

Give an example of a pull factor for
