INTRODUCTION
The structure which denotes the direction of the sky and it
serves all functions for the human purpose it can be defined
as high rise building. Day by day people wants the mixed use
& high rise development in the urban society. So now as days
it is very essential for our life.
CONCEPT OF HIGHRISE BUILDING HISTORICAL POSTCARD OF
HIGHRISE BUILDING

TOWER OF BABEL RELIANCE BUILDING.

Architect: Pieter Bruegel Architect: Burnham and Company
Time : 1563. Built time: 1890-1895
State: Vienna. Stories: 16
State: Chicago,Illinois, USA.
Height: 61 meter.
HIGHRISE BUILDING PROVIDES:
In mixed used High Rise should be
provide:
1.Space
2.Circulation
3.Orientation
4.Climatic support
5.Mechanical controlling system.

HIGH RISE ANALYSIS:

High Rise building analysis by its :
1.Form.
2.Scale.
3.Structure.
4.Climate.
5. Cost & Benefit.
DEFINATION OF CORE
HIGH-RISE BUILDING, REQIRE MAXIMUM FLEXIBLITY IN LAYOUT, CALLING FOR
LARGE OPEN SPEACES THAT CAN BE SUBDEVIDED BY MOVABLE PARTITIONS. A
COMMON SOLUTATION IS TO GATHER VERTICAL TRANSPORTATION AND ENERGY
DISTRIBUTITION SYSTEMS.
SERVICE CORE CONTENTS
-Elevator shafts
-Elevator lobby
-Staircases
-Fire protected lobbies
-A H U
-Toilets
-Ancillary rooms (pantry, space for cleaning materials etc)
-Mechanical vertical services riser ducts (electrical power
& lighting distribution, water distribution, sewerage
pipes)
-Electrical vertical service riser
SERVICE CORE TYPE & PLACEMENT
1.Central core 2.Split core 3.End core 4.Atrium core
SHAPE OF CORE
>OPEN FORMS

-- X-SHAPED,
-- I-SHAPED, AND
-- [-SHAPED.
CLOSED FORMS

--SQUARE,
--RECTANGULAR,
--CIRCULAR,
-TRIANGULAR.
DUCT
Space within a building specially
enclosed for the accommodation of
services and allowing facilities for
working and inspection.
7-10% of the total floor area for plant
spaces and duct.
PURPOSE

conceal the
services and to
facilitate inspection,
repair and
alterations.
Helps to reduce
noise
Protects the
services from
damage
TYPES OF DUCT
Vertical Duct- Dimensions are often
found varied due to lack of planning in
the design process

Underground Duct- Would conflict with

columns and foundations in
construction
FUNCTION
Air trunking
Large and essential to consider them at the
outset of any design
They must be take into consideration first
before other services due to the space
requirement

Heating pipes
May be larger than waste and soil pipes in
large buildings due to the insulation but
generally they are smaller in size.

Water supply pipes

Are very often smaller than heating
supply pipes and do not
require heavy i
nsulation.
Electrical cables
Very small in most buildings and
they can very easily be accommodate
in comparatively small trunking
They are disposed within the
thickness of a floor screed

Waste and soil installation

Are not as large as air trunking but need
to be design in the early stage due to space
requirement
Fire Safety System
CONSIDERATIONS
- Fire alarm in every floor
- Fire escape should not more than 100ft away
from working distance
- Emergency lighting should be provided
- Fire escape should be located outside the core
- Width of fire escape should be
2-6 (old) or 5-0(new)
PRINCIPLES
1. Fire Avoidance(Material)
Concrete
o Disintegrates in 400-500
Masonry
o Cracks at 575
Steel
o Loses half strength at 550
Glass
o NO fire resistance
o BUT monolithic fire rated glass is available
Fire load
o Weight of combustible contents per unit floor
o 2 types
o Movable content fire load
o Interior finish fire load
PRINCIPLES
2. Fire Detection
Manual

Automatic
PRINCIPLES
3. Fire Growth Restriction
Fire extinguisher

Water supply

Fire blanket

Bucket of sand Pressure 175psi

Spaced 3.6 6.0m apart

5. Fire Control
PRINCIPLES
6. Smoke Control
PRINCIPLES
7. Escape Provision
PRINCIPLES
7. Escape Provision
Simple and Direct
Door opens out
NO barrier
Not hidden from view
Protected escape route(min escape time 60min )
Door as far as possible
Both door should not open into the same
compartment
Vertical Circulation

Components(Escalators)
- An escalator is a continuously running,
unidirectional vehicle. Pairs of escalators
are necessary for two-way service.
