Prussia, Austria and Russia.
In 1795, Poland ceased to be a country.

The Soviets liberated Poland, but the
country became part of the Soviet bloc.
In 1989, the fall of communism saw
Poland throw off the Soviet Union and
become independent and open to the
West.

Became the Pope in 1978 and was a very
popular and beloved leader.
He was the first Pope from Poland.
He was very opposed to communism due to his
experience growing up as part of the Soviet
Union.
He is credited with helping the fall of
communism.

known for her work in radioactivity and
for winning two Nobel Prizes in
chemistry and physics.
