METHODS
Inclusion criteria:
1. Inpatients with ischemic and/or hemorrhagic stroke
2. Age 18years
3. Measurement of any biomarker from plasma, serum, blood,
urine or exhaled breath to evaluate
4. diagnostic accuracy or prediction of pneumonia or lower-
respiratory tract infection
5. Prospective or retrospective observational studies, quasi-
experimental or randomised trials reviews
6. Completed studies or published abstracts
7. English or non-English language
Exclusion criteria:
1. Infection and/or pneumonia/ respiratory tract
infection not recorded during follow-up
2. Frequency of pneumonia or respiratory tract
infection not reported separately from
frequency of
3. infection
4. Exclusively intubated/ventilated patients*
5. Exclusively pneumonia preceding index stroke
6. Publication after March 1st 2014
